The Newcastle Northern Angels are the official cheerleading team of Newcastle University, and we are currently made up of multiple competitive teams. Our competitive team consists of a Level 1, 2 and 3 and three dance teams, which all compete both locally and nationally. We are an outgoing and enthusiastic group who all train and compete frequently in a friendly and inclusive environment.

Latest News
We’ve just had two very successful days of tryouts and are so happy to be welcoming some new faces and talent onto the team! This year we have an additional level 1 team, as well as a Hip Hop dance group. This makes our squad the biggest yet! We can’t wait to see what this year holds for us!

Meet The Commitee
Hey guys, I’m Tulsi and I’m one of your Dance Captains, Hip Hop to be specific. I’m a second-year student studying Pharmacy and this is also my second year as an angel. I will be choreographing a hip hip routine to a piece of music that I have created and teaching the routine to you and if you decide to be part of the hip-hop team. I have been cheerleading since the start of uni and I’m so glad I joined the team, I met some of my closest friends on the team and I had so much fun doing cheer last year.
Hi Angels, I’m El! I’m 19, I study a degree in Law and this is my second year as a Northern Angel. My cheer position is a base although I started off as a flyer. My role on the committee is Lyrical Dance Captain so I choreograph the lyrical dance routine and work with Scarlet and Tulsi! Lots of chove x
Hey I’m Scarlet I’m going to be one of the Dance Captains this year. I’ve been an angel for two years now, and I don’t know what I’d do with my time if I didn’t cheer. Im going back to my 3rd year studying pharmacy and I can’t wait to be dance captain for the second time, looking forward to another successful year! X
Hi, I’m Jess Watts! I’m going into third year studying physical geography. This will be my second year as an Angel and I’m excited to be Sponsorship Liaison. This role includes trying to get sponsorship for our club to make the sport as cheap as I can. I also run the social media pages keeping everyone up to date with our progress and any events that’s occurring! I have a background in dance and gymnastics and came to cheer with no precious cheer experience. I’m so glad to be part of the angels team! The best part of being an angel is after comp seeing how all your hard work and commitment pays off!
Hey! I’m Abbie, I’m going into 2nd year law and I’m so excited to be one of your Social Secs this year! This is my second year on the angels team and I have a feeling it is going to be a great one! My role on the team apart from organising and running the weekly social is to ensure everyone knows everyone throughout all 3 teams. Can’t wait to meet you all! Hey my names Morgan and I’ll be your Social Sec this year so get ready to HAVE FUNN!! I’m in 2nd year and studying maths with management and have done cheer for 2 years. It’s my job to make sure you’re safe and having the best time on the team and have the sickest nights out. LETS GO ANGELS XX
Hey angels! I’m Natasha Schmidt, your Welfare officer for this year! I have been in the cheer team for just one year but I feel as if I have been there forever. I did acrobatic gymnastics since I was 4 years old so I am familiar with the moves. As welfare officer my role is to help any one having difficulties, worries or doubts in any area. In the more stressful exam seasons I will hold mindfulness sessions and distress exercises to keep everyone happy and healthy! I am very friendly and approachable person who would love a one on one chat about anything they like, cheer related or not! Lots of Chove, Tash xx
Hey! I’m Ola, and I’ll be your Treasurer for Cheer 19-20! I’ll be sorting out all the finances regarding cheer; from kit to competitions and right down to tour! I’m entering my final year of Pharmacy and second year of cheer. I joined the team for the first time last year as I wanted to build new skills and get more involved with uni life. I’ve always loved the idea of cheer from what I’d seen so thought I’d give it a go! I don’t regret joining the team because its been an amazing and rewarding experience working with a great group of girls and becoming national champions at ICC! Hey i’m Poppy, I’m Purples vice-captain Hey I’m Poppy, I’m Purples Vice Captain so will be helping Danielle into making the Northern Angels first level 1 team! This will be my third year of cheer and I hope you will love it as much as I do. I currently study economics and am a keen dancer so will be focusing mainly on the dance sections of purples and reds. Hi! I’m Danielle! I’m a masters student just finishing up my degree in museum studies. This is my second year on the team as well as my seventh year cheerleading. I’m also on a level 5 team this year, and you will hopefully get to see my other team at some comps. I am this years Captain for our Level 1 team, Purple. I will be responsible for the creating the routine and coaching with my vice captain, as well as helping out with the other teams and stunt groups. Honestly, I cannot recommend joining the Angels enough – it is such a lovely group of girls that have really made my uni experience as amazing as it has been. Hi I’m Martha and I’m Blues Vice Captain for the Newcastle Northern Angels this year! I am going into my third year at uni studying Sociology and I am also going into my third year of being a cheerleader on the squad. Before uni I did gymnastics and dance for 10 years, so cheerleading seemed like the perfect way to combine these two sports! My role on the team is to assist Jess with the choreography of the blues routine as well as help coach the choreography we create. I love being a part of the northern angels and have made such fab friends, I can’t wait to welcome the new members to this wonderful team! Lots of Chove xxx
Hi, I’m Jessie, I am in my fourth year studying for a master’s in marine engineering. I have been an angel since my first year at university and this year I am super excited to be taking over the role of Blues Captain! I joined the club because I wanted to try something a little different and totally fell in love with cheerleading. During my time on the team I have competed in dance, group stunt, blues and reds. One of my highlights was winning a national competition with my level four group stunt last year. My role is to create a routine for our level two squad and lead the team in their training sessions throughout the year, with the help of my vice-captain. I am really looking forward to getting started, and helping blues create a routine they can put out on the mat and be proud of.
Reds vice-captain Hi I’m Rose, I’m starting my psychology placement year and I’m super excited be your Reds’ Vice-Captain this year. I started cheerleading 2 years ago when I came to uni, and I was a gymnast and coach before that. My role this year is to support Chloe in reds’ choreography and coaching, and to help out in training sessions, conditioning and tumbling. With my gymnastics experience I’m able to assist anyone who wants to learn/improve on tumbles, and I’m here for anything else that anyone, on any team, needs. I can’t wait to get started on this new season!
Hi my name is Chloe, I’m going into my third year studying mathematics and I’m so excited to be Reds Captain of Newcastle Northern Angels! I’ve been an Angel for two years now and this will be my 10th year of being a cheerleader. I’ve competed at both national and international level, representing my country. My role is to create Reds routine and run their training with the help of my vice captain, as well as to oversee all the captains and ensure we all work together as a team to make the Northern Angels stronger than ever!
President Hi everyone! I’m Heidi Morris and I’m also one of your Co-Presidents this year, along with Jess T. I’ve been doing cheerleading for a long time so absolutely love the sport!! I’m a third year law student and can’t wait to be on the committee this year. As Jess said we deal with admin side of cheer and help run the club. Hello everybody! My name is Jess Thomas (bare with because there are three jess’ on committee) and I’m one of your Co-Presidents this year! I’m a third year Psychology student and a proud member of the Angels. Heidi and myself will be in charge of the general running of the club and basically anything admin related.
